Welcome to The World Affairs Council of Rhode Island

The World Affairs Council of Rhode Island is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting knowledge, awareness, and understanding of the world and its people, cultures, and events.

Our mission is to give our members first hand accounts and insights about issues that transcend our borders, and a community for exchanging ideas and meeting like-minded people.

For 80 years, WACRI has brought the world to Rhode Island through our monthly Guest Speaker and Global Discussions programs, by hosting international visitors, and by promoting learning and education about world affairs.

We invite you to join WACRI, and become a part of our community of globally oriented citizens.

Introducing our First "Salon" August 26th!

Since the 18 century people have gathered in the living rooms of private homes to discuss the topics and ideas of the day.  These "salons" were social, intimate and interactive gatherings to learn, share views, and personally connect with others.

So we are pleased to announce that on August 26th we will be sponsoring our first WACRI salon, an "unplugged" version of our events to complement our monthly dinner series.  These salons are small, free, and open to members only.

This salon will feature Dr. Richard Lobban, WACRI member and Professor of African Security, Naval War College, who will update us on the latest progress in defeating ISIS and lead a discussion on whether ISIS' days are truly numbered.  He will also address other questions such as whether the US is just doing al-Qa'eda a favor by getting rid of their rival.

There will be a short presentation and then time to share views, discuss, and casually dine with fellow members and their guests. Mingling and connecting with others in the kitchen and patio is encouraged.

This is a free event, but donations of any amount are appreciated to help defer our costs.  Food and beverages are provided. BYOB for wine, beer and your favorite cocktail.

Registrations are limited to 25 people so sign up early.

Date: Saturday, August 26th

Location: 65 Prospect Street, Barrington, Rhode Island

Time: 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
